Some of us are old, some are young. Some are newcomers, and others have lived their entire lives in Eastmoreland. We’re teachers, business owners, writers, managers, engineers, civil servants, musicians, artists, and students. Some of us are doing okay, others are getting by. Some are just getting started, and some are winding down.
Over a thousand of us have stated for the record that we have serious doubts about committing Eastmoreland to be a national historic district. We feel a HD is overly restrictive and unnecessary, and we’re working to provide you with the information you need to make a the best decision.
When you know the facts, we’re pretty sure you’ll make the same decision we did which is to ask the State of Oregon to pause the HD process. Let's wait until we know how pending legislation will impact our proposed historic district. When we know a HD is a good fit for Eastmoreland, then we can proceed with the nomination. Meanwhile, it’s just smart to hold off until we know more, especially because a historic district lasts forever. There is no going back.
